Cambridge was such a blast to visit. There is something magnificent about that city. There are students everywhere, families in the park, quaint and hip places to eat, and so many amazing coffee shops. If you haven’t been, I would highly suggest adding it to your England tour. There are so many things to do in Cambridge, England.
Also, fun fact, there are more than 31 colleges in Cambridge! That means there is a lot of architecture to check out. Here’s a list of the places I visited while I was in Cambridge. I thoroughly enjoyed them and hope you do too!
1. Stickybeaks Cafe – We went here for brunch, and it was such a win. The fresh-squeezed orange juice was delightful, and the daily-changing brunch menu was perfect. If you want healthy and delicious meals, this is the place to go!
2. Market Square – This is a three-minute walk from Stickybeaks Cafe. It is the place to be, and all the stalls make it worth your while. You could probably spend a good hour or two here going from stall to stall. Be careful not to spend all your money here!
3. The Haunted Bookshop – A mysterious bookstore hidden in an alley across from King’s College. You can’t take any photos inside, but it’s still worth the visit!
4. King’s College – This is a must-see attraction. Tickets are a bit pricey, but if you’re an architecture buff, it’s well worth it. King’s Chapel is one of the finest examples of the perpendicular architectural style in England, and my husband totally “nerded out” here.
5. Queens’ College Park – Queens’ is one of the oldest and largest colleges of the university, founded in 1448 by Margaret of Anjou. We went to the Queens’ Green behind the college and enjoyed walking through the lovely park. I would suggest a picnic here!
6. The Backs – When you walk past the colleges toward the backs (hence the name), you get the best views. The water goes through this area, the trees are huge, and people are just strolling and taking in all these views. You absolutely do not want to miss this.
7. Trinity College – As one of the 31+ college in Cambridge, this is one you don’t want to miss. The interiors are stunning, and the structures are worth the tour. You can go to a concert here too if you’re interested; I would just check out what the programs are before you go.
8. Street food – We went back to the Market Square after touring around Cambridge and went to the dumplings stall. The dumplings were fresh and flavorful. If you want a light meal that’s inexpensive, check out the street food!
9. The Round Church – This place has such interesting architecture! It is a small space, but you should check it out. The history behind this building is pretty incredible, and it is not expensive to tour.
10. The Grand Arcade (Mall) – This is one of Cambridge’s main shopping spaces. There are numerous stores to shop in and places to eat as well. Weekends make this place very busy, so if you need to go, I would get there early. It was packed on that Saturday.
11. Hot Numbers Coffee – Fantastic coffee with a variety of options. This place was packed when we got in, but we found two stools to sit on and that was enough. The food options are minimal but cafe like, and the music is good too.
12. Cambridge Botanic Garden – I am so happy we didn’t skip this. It would be so easy to overlook, as it’s a bit hidden, but make sure you check it out! It’s gorgeous, there are so many varieties of trees and plants, and this is where a lot of research is completed. The greenhouses are truly the highlight of this space.
We ventured to Cambridge via train from London. The journey was about an hour and 20 minutes and completely doable. We headed out early Saturday morning and got back late Saturday evening. If you’ve been to Cambridge, comment below on any suggestions to add to the list!
