Honestly Austin: My Eberly Brunch Experience and Review

We recently visited Eberly Austin for my husband’s birthday breakfast with my in-laws. After seeing that iconic Eberly study room picture and hearing about their brunch, I knew I needed to check this place out.

Eberly Service

I made a reservation for the four of us, which was a great idea because it was packed! Parking is complimentary valet services or street parking. Because we went on a hectic Saturday morning, we just valet parked our car. One thing I appreciated about the valet service is that they accept credit card!

Eberly Décor

Wow. I now understand all the buzz about the decor of this place. It is mid-century modern meets trendy modern. There’s something for everyone in the way that it’s decorated. I especially loved all the use of brass and the tile work. For me, the real gem was the study. As soon as I saw it, I started brainstorming what special events I could host here! My only negative thought with the restaurant space is that it severely lacks in sound insulation. So, on a Saturday morning, it gets LOUD. Besides the restaurant space, Eberly also has a study, rooftop bar & Cedar Tavern.

Eberly Bar/Happy Hour

The bar is eye-catching and is at the back center of the restaurant. You can sit at the bar if you don’t want a table or a booth. Also, the bar isn’t a “consolation prize” seat. It was happening! Everyone was at the bar, and they loved getting their mimosa on! That made me curious about what Eberly’s happy hour looks like, and here’s a quick summary: Tuesday-Friday from 5pm-7pm you can get half off selected Tavern Menu Items, $4 draft beers, $6 glasses of wine, and $7 select cocktails. On Sundays and Mondays, Eberly has happy hour all night!

Eberly Food

Let’s talk about Eberly’s Nutella-filled brioche buns. Imagine fresh, flaky brioche buns filled with creamy Nutella. Yeah, they were precisely as divine as they sound. Tip: Ask your server to warm it up so that the Nutella is warm.

Now for my main meal, I ordered the breakfast calzone. The description says, “smoked brisket Stromboli or black beans, scrambled eggs, potato, shredded sharp cheddar, jalapeños, fire roasted tomato salsa.” Looks like a lot, right? Mmm, nope. It was the thinnest calzone I’ve ever had in my life. Also, the jalapenos, salsa, and onions were all on the side and not actually in the calzone. So, my calzone just had beans, cheddar, and potato in it. They should have called it a breakfast taco. A $12 breakfast taco.

After my mother-in-law and I ordered these ‘calzones,’ they only brought out one half of each of ours because there was some mix-up in the kitchen. That meant that we got the second half of our already small breakfast, ten minutes later. It’s awkward to sit and wait for the rest of your meal, especially when you’re hangry, but I understand that sometimes happenings in the kitchen cause inefficient service. Check out the full brunch menu here. My husband and my father-in-law loved their burgers, but they said it was the smallest burgers they’ve ever had.

My Conclusion

Eberly is undoubtedly the place to go if you are looking for a lovely & fun spot for brunch with girlfriends! With that said, I don’t think my husband is keen to go back for brunch because portion sizes are too small. We plan to go to Eberly soon for lunch/dinner and see if those portions are more substantial so be on the lookout for an update to this post soon!
