Why I Started This Blog: thehonestShruth

Today marks one month since our wedding. A whole lot has happened since then, mostly planning our move to London from Austin. Currently, we are sitting in the airport trying to tie up last-minute loose ends like forwarding our mail, charging our devices, and inhaling all the queso we can. After the last tortilla chip was consumed (thanks husband), I started on this blog.

I’m starting this because I love writing, and J.K. Rowling (the greatest ever) inspired me to start writing in London. HOLD UP, I know what you’re thinking: “Great, this is going to be another one of those humble-braggy blogs where she writes about how adventurous their lives are, posts pictures of her OOTD (outfit of the day, I had to Google that), talks about how ‘marriage is such an adventure,’ etc.” I’d like to firmly remove all of those doubts from your head because that ain’t gonna happen (I repeat outfits too much anyways).

Here’s what I want to write about, and here’s why I think I would be good at it.

  1. I want to write about architecture because my husband has extensively studied it, and we are moving to London for the purpose of him continuing his growth in that field. Also, let’s be real, I had no idea that buildings could be so fascinating. Seriously, they are like giant pieces of art that are more than just containers for businesses, people, and things. Do I know all the technically correct terms? No. Can I still appreciate the large-marble-column thingies? Yes.

  2. I’d like to write about the real-life situations and people we encounter. I think one of the best ways to grow in your perspective of the world is to understand the different people and places that fill it. Growing up in a small town in Texas, sometimes people weren’t so…respectful. I’m aware of the situations, the looks, the mispronunciations, and I also am aware that most of it isn’t spiteful. People just don’t know. On the flip side, as a Christian, I’ve also had the lovely opportunity to be exposed to people being judgmental of my believing in Jesus. There will always be haters, and I know I can’t change that, but I can help with the rapidly growing ignorance and intolerance. Because knowledge is power, people!!3.  I’d like to write about the different eats and drinks we try in all the cities we are in because I am a hardcore vegetarian with a taste for tequila, and he is a devoted carnivore with a passion for beer. We are also MaJoR value hunters. Yes, we like to find us a good deal, and oh man does it just make the food taste so much better. We hope to find a few secrets in the cities we visit and share those with you.

    4.  I’d like to write about our faith. I grew up in a non-Christian household, and after eighteen years of life, I picked up my first Bible. Long story short, it changed my eyes, my heart, and my life. My husband grew up in a traditionally Christian household, but for him, his journey wasn’t finding faith, it was making it his own. While we live abroad, one of our difficulties will be missing our consistent community back home. I figure this way, we can still encourage and be encouraged. Ya dig?

    5.  I’d like to write about some of the moments of our first year of marriage. Why? Because honestly some of the things that happen are just too damn funny. For example, my husband walks around with headphones in when I’m watching The Bachelorette while expressing his visible annoyance. Personally it cracks me up how annoyed he gets with the show, and I secretly think his headphones aren’t even playing anything. Also, don’t even get him started on Justin Bieber.

    6. I want to write about anything you recommend. Obviously, I will not write about absolutely anything, but close to it. I enjoy reading, researching, and forming an educated opinion and would love to hear what you have to say and think. Conversation is good; it opens the mind.

All I know is that I love to write, so that’s why I am doing this right now. On my shelf I think I have more journals than books, so maybe I should pick up on the reading. If you enjoy my writing, let me know! I’m also open to any suggestions of topics to write about.

Cheers,
