Tequila Tex-Mex in London, England

We finally found ourselves some good Tex-Mex in London!!!!! Yes, all of those explanation points are necessary.

This may not seem like a big deal until you realize just how much we were missing Mexican food. In fact, my husband’s family brought us salsa, tamales, and bags of tortillas for Christmas because they knew how badly we were missing Mexican food! So to be honest, we were verrrry skeptical of this restaurant. For starters, it’s called Tequila Tex-Mex. Yeah. Sketchy for sure. Secondly, from the outside, it didn’t look like much. I wasn’t even sure if I’d ever seen many people in the restaurant when I’d walked by. But my husband took us there for date night to put our questions to rest once and for all, and boy was it an adventure!

AMBIANCE

As we were seated, I noticed a large family speaking in Spanish (points for authenticity) sitting next to us. First good sign. I also noticed that our menu had 200 options for different kinds of shots and a whole range of different kinds of margaritas—second good sign! Oh, sweet margarita! It had been so long since I’d had one of those. The music in the background was great, the drinks were good, and the restaurant was half-filled! Not bad at all for a Thursday night. And then the food came.

FOOD

Our table was filled with food, and it all smelled divine. I ordered the veggie chimichangas, and he ordered the Mexican fajitas. We also got a side of salsa and guacamole with nachos. The nachos looked like they weren’t homemade, but the guacamole definitely was. The chimichangas were delicious, and I was so surprised with how many veggies they really stuffed into the tortilla! Usually when you say veggie anything, you get the most meager amount of veggies with way too much cheese and beans. But these chimichangas were filled with grilled peppers, onions, tomatoes, and green beans (whoa). The cheese was just on the top, so I could have removed some of it if I had wanted to (definitely didn’t, because cheese is life).

I know he loved his fajitas because there weren’t any left to take home. I had a bit of food left over, but that was only because I’d had a late lunch. And it made for delicious leftovers the next day! The best part about this experience was that they brought over two sombreros and let us wear them during dinner. I am not even kidding you. It was hilarious and just added to the fun of eating Mexican food.

PRICE

Price-wise, this place was very reasonable. I will say this was the most expensive Mexican food we’ve ever had, but that’s only because in Texas, there’s a Mexican restaurant on every corner, so they don’t charge much at all. But compared to other restaurants here in London, this place was in the budget. So if you’re looking for a place to enjoy authentic margaritas and/or a Mexican meal, you’ve got to check this place out! Este restaurante es tan delicioso!
