This weekend we headed to the English countryside for some fresh air.
We stopped the car at the endless rolling hills and green fields.
All of us bathed in the setting sun. We skipped, we ran.
My husband rolled around on the grass and his friend was busy with cartwheels.
We were out of breath, we were like kids.
My husband smiled, and said, “It’s important to be childlike sometimes.
We need to do this more often.”
I’ll never forget that.
Even God in the Bible talks about the importance of receiving the kingdom of God and trusting our Father in heaven like a little child does…with a spirit that is genuine, humble, unpretentious, earnest, and pure unADULTerated joy!
People have been asking me if we did any special things this weekend in
the countryside and all I can respond with is yes, we were just kids.
We were childlike.
And it was actually really wonderful.
“But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children
come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the
kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.”
Mark 10:14-16
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
Matthew 7:11
Cheers,

Hey — I wrote a book about all of this.
Living Open-Handed is the devotional I wrote during a season when I really needed to hear these words myself. If you're in a place where you need to be encouraged by scripture and softened by grace, it might be for you too.
