Spend Your Summer in Avon and Vail, Colorado

When my husband and I set our wedding date for the summer, we knew we would need cooler weather for our honeymoon. Since we were moving to Europe three weeks after the wedding, we just didn’t have the budget to head to another country for cooler weather. After countless google searches and hours of research (on his part), the ideal location ended up being summer in Colorado for a number of reasons.

  1. Since it wasn’t skiing season, there were deals galore for accommodations.
  2. The weather was fantastic and we didn’t need fat jackets or boots.
  3. Also thanks to off-season, Avon and Vail weren’t overcrowded with people at every restaurant or store.
  4. It was only a two hour flight from Texas.
  5. Neither of us had ever been to Colorado and we wanted to go somewhere completely new for the both of us.

 HOTEL:

The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch

Once we got to Denver, we rented a car and drove to Avon, Colorado. We stayed for five nights at The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch. This was definitely the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my life haha. They even have a hotel dog (not joking). Our room was a premium suite with a master bedroom, separate living room, full kitchen, bathroom, and view of the mountains. We picked up groceries at the local supermarket and stocked our fridge so we didn’t have to eat out for every meal. But the meals we did eat out, oh my goodness, they were amazing.

EATS:

Buffalo’s – This place is in the Ritz-Carlton and it is an elevated sport’s bar serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. Needless to say, we were here often. Their veggie burger was amazing and so was the mac and cheese (heart eyes).

Sweet Basil – This place is a modern American restaurant serving lunch and dinner daily. If you want fast service and great food, definitely check this space out.

Yeti’s Grind – We loved this coffee shop! We got breakfast tacos and coffee here more than two…or three…or four…times. Thankfully, it is right in the center of Vail village so caffeine is just a few steps away!

Vin48 – We went here on our last night in Avon. This delicious restaurant is located near the hotel and the views are incredible. They opened the floor-to-ceiling glass doors to their patio, allowing us to enjoy open-air dining and spectacular views of Beaver Creek. During the end of dinner it started raining so yes, we did get to listen to the sound of rain while enjoying our candlelight dinner (#whatdreamsaremadeof).

Westside Café – YUMMMMY COMFORT FOOOOD. Enough said.

Annapurna Vail – Of course you know I’ve got to put an Indian restaurant on here! Shoot! If we go to a city and don’t check out an Indian restaurant, are we even human?! Once you get your fill of delicious burgers and pancakes and mojitos and s’mores, your taste buds will be jumping for joy for some masala. Check this space out y’all!

ENTERTAINMENT:

S’mores and games at the Ritz-Carlton – The hotel provides all the fixings that you need to enjoy some fresh s’mores. They do this every night on the balcony and it was a highlight for sure! You can also check out all of their lawn games which are perfect with a mimosa and the mountain views.

Ritz-Carlton Spa and Ritz-Carlton Gym – I think we were at the spa every single day. We indulged in massages, manicures (me), the eucalyptus steam room, the ice bath, the various hot tubs, and pretty much anything else they offered. Ahh we were so relaxed it was kind of ridiculous. We worked off our milkshakes and ice cream. But that’s pretty much it ha!

Nature walk by the Ritz-Carlton and hiking around Avon, Colorado – I mean…its Colorado. There are miles and miles of mountains and wild life. We say people hiking all the time. If the mountains are calling you, this is the place for you. We went on a nature walk and saw bear prints so that was terrifying and exciting! I’m a city girl so that’s as far as I got.

Vail Village – We visited the local Movie Theater twice…yes that’s how relaxed we were haha! Movies aren’t for everyone I suppose, but we just love going to them. The movie theater has their own parking garage which is awesome on the days where he Vail Village parking is impossible. When we weren’t eating or watching movies, we got to check out the GoPro Mountain Games and treat ourselves to some shopping.

So if you’re looking for a cooler space to go to in the U.S.A. this summer and you don’t have the moolah to fly across the world, take my word for it and check out Avon/Vail Colorado. You will relax like you’ve never done before with the fantastic spa experience, great food, fresh mountain air, and peace. Have you spent part/all of your summer in Colorado? If you have, what are your recommendations?
