Delicious Pizza in London: Pizza Metro

I think we can all agree that pizza is the world’s best food creation.

Okay, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but it’s definitely in the top five most delicious meals ever. That’s as un-dramatic as I get, people. Did you know I actually used to work at a pizza parlor back in the day? Like baaaack in the day.

Man those were the good ol’ days (not). I remember our uniform consisted of black shoes, black socks, black pants, a black shirt, a black hat, and black belt—and this was in the peak of a Texas summer. Our pizza parlor wasn’t anything high class. Because it was an all-you-can-eat buffet, it was actually filled with kids who were high (and had the munchies, gross) plus large families. After I worked there, I didn’t touch a slice of pizza for about five years, I was so scarred. But now pizza is back in my top five.

Since we’ve been in London, I have been looking for pizza that tastes anything like what I had when I was in Italy. And by golly, I think I found it. Pizza Metro is the magical space where delicious, authentic, Italian pizzas are made. They have one location in Battersea and one in Notting Hill.

First impression:

I felt comfortable as soon as I walked in because they greeted me with “buona sera!”, the Italian greeting for “good evening.” I may have been imagining this, but I think everyone who worked there looked Italian too. The space was clean, the people were friendly, and the air smelled like fresh pizza.

Decor:

In the entryway of the restaurant, they have their giant wood-burning oven. I learned that Pizza Metro was the first restaurant in London to cook meter-long pizzas in a wood-burning oven, so you know I had to order a meter-long pizza. The tables and chairs are simple but comfortable, perfect for a pizza parlor. The walls are filled with Italian memorabilia. I hope they get some booths soon because I’m definitely partial to booths over tables.

Crowd:

For a Tuesday, this place was packed. There wasn’t even an event going on; it just seems like this was the place to go for warm pizza on a cool London night. Make a reservation just to be safe.

Taste:

I ordered the margarita pizza because I feel like you can tell a lot about a place by how tasty their cheese pizza is. Hubby ordered something with a ton of meat on it, surprise surprise. Once we got the pizza, we took a few moments to look at it. The crust looked so fresh, and the cheese was all melted and perfectly oily. And then we took our first bites. So freaking delicious. This cheese pizza made taste buds that I didn’t know I had come alive. We finished our pizzas within 15 minutes, then we looked at each other silently thinking, “YESSS we found our pizza place.”

Price:

The only downside I would say about this place is that they are not “pizza parlor cheap.” You know what I mean? If you want a low-budget dinner, this place does not necessarily fit the bill. For both of our pizzas and our Cokes, it was 36 pounds. I know in the scheme of things that’s not quite a fancy dinner, but it is certainly more than I have ever paid at a pizza parlor. I think I would not get a soda next time because those were about 3 pounds apiece, which is pretty steep considering it’s just soda from a can.

Conclusion:

This place is great for a date night or for a group of friends. If you are in central London and are looking for some delicious pizza, check out Pizza Metro. If you’re looking for enjoyable and authentic Italian-style food, go to Pizza Metro. And make sure you definitely order the meter-long pizza!
