[No. 14] Love Is Open Hearted

[No. 14] Love Is Open Hearted

What is love? Love is open hearted.

I remember when I was single, I wrote a list.

It was an extensive list of ten characteristics I wanted my next special someone to have.

Don’t laugh, but it went something like:

Indian, Brahmin, vegetarian, Christian, kind, tall, intelligent, athletic, hilarious, and joyful.

I told you not to laugh haha!

Anyways, never in a million years did I think I’d marry this guy.

He will tell you the same.

We weren’t even attracted to each other when we first began dating…

but there was something much deeper than physical attraction pulling us toward each other.

It was our mutual love for Jesus Christ.

Sometimes our backgrounds are so different that we laugh about how God

must have enjoyed making our paths cross, clash, & ultimately come together.

But isn’t that the beauty of it?

When we finally say, “let go and let God,” and we really do, good things come!

The biggest lesson this has taught me is that without an open heart to what God wants,

my dreams or desires can prevent me from the even greater gifts God has planned for me.

After all, if God really created me, wouldn’t he know what is best also?

Cheers,

Hey — I wrote a book about all of this.

Living Open-Handed is the devotional I wrote during a season when I really needed to hear these words myself. If you're in a place where you need to be encouraged by scripture and softened by grace, it might be for you too.
