[No. 24] Love Is Breaking the Ice

[No. 24] Love Is Breaking the Ice

Love is breaking the ice.
This past week, I examined our friendship with our English friends.
We only met a year ago,
but quickly skipped from acquaintances to family.
Why was it so easy?
When Charlotte or I annoyed each other,
why was it so easy to tell each other and not take offense?
How did I know exactly when she would rather stay in
and she knew when I was “hangry” or needed introvert time?

Communication, communication, communication!

If I’m honest, these days people would rather not [potentially] offend someone than be honest.
We are so worried about the security of our relationships
that we skate on this ice of politeness for a while,
just going in circles.
But if we are so worried about security,
are these relationships much more than surface level?
Hubs & I always say, “Either go address the person about the issue or let the issue go.”
But how many of us still harbor a silent record of wrongs?
Are we that afraid of breaking the polite ice?
When you do [with love],
and the other person responds [with love],
you grow, & sooner than later,
make it to family.

Cheers,

Hey — I wrote a book about all of this.

Living Open-Handed is the devotional I wrote during a season when I really needed to hear these words myself. If you're in a place where you need to be encouraged by scripture and softened by grace, it might be for you too.
